Allergists, otolaryngologists, and some primary care clinicians perform percutaneous testing to evaluate suspected immediate allergies, including allergic rhinitis, asthma triggers, and food allergy. Small amounts of allergenic extract are introduced through a scratch, prick, or puncture on the forearm or back. The resulting wheal and flare are read shortly afterward.
